A stability-based distributed routing mechanism to support unicast and multicast routing in ad hoc wireless network

چکیده
An ad hoc network can be envisioned as a collection of mobile routers, each equipped with a wireless transceiver, which are free to move about arbitrarily. In ad hoc wireless networks, even if two nodes are outside the wireless transmission range of each other, they may still be able to communicate in multiple hops using other intermediate nodes. However, the dynamics of these networks, as a consequence of mobility and disconnection of mobile hosts, pose a number of problems in designing routing schemes for effective communication between any pair of source and destination. In this paper, a stability-based unicast routing mechanism, that considers both link affinity and path stability in order to find out a stable route from source to destination, is proposed. It is then extended to support multicast routing as well where only local state information (at source) is utilized for constructing a multicast tree. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated on a simulated environment to show that the stability-based scheme provides a unified framework for both unicast and multicast routing and reduces the probability of route error drastically in both the cases. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------# Cognizant Technology Solutions, Sector V, Calcutta 700 091, India. Multicast communication in the context of ad hoc wireless network is a very useful and efficient means of supporting group-oriented applications, where the need for one-to-many data dissemination is quite frequent in critical situations such as disaster recovery or battlefield scenarios. The objective of this paper is to propose and evaluate an on-demand multicasting routing mechanism for ad ho...
متن کاملBroadcast Routing in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks: A Particle Swarm optimization Approach
While routing in multi-hop packet radio networks (static Ad-hoc wireless networks), it is crucial to minimize power consumption since nodes are powered by batteries of limited capacity and it is expensive to recharge the device. This paper studies the problem of broadcast routing in radio networks. Given a network with an identified source node, any broadcast routing is considered as a directed...

A wireless ad hoc network typically refers to any set of wireless networks where all devices have equal status on a network and are free to associate with any other wireless ad hoc network devices in their range. As the nature of these networks, they commonly do not have external power supplies, and each node has a limited internal power source. In this paper, we put forward a new routing proto...

A Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a selfconfiguring network composed of mobile nodes without any fixed infrastructure. In a MANETs, there are no difference between a host node and a router so that all nodes can be source as well as forwarders of traffic. Moreover, all MANET components can be mobile. They provide robust communication in a variety of hostile environment, such as communication fo...
